Black and white works best. But here are some reasons Mughal-E-Azam needs to be seen...<br /><br />* For its sheer canvass, for its framing, for its majestic framing and not just for being a gaudy costume drama.<br />* For its romance, watch Dilip Kumar run a feather across Indian cinema’s most beautiful face...and time stops absolutely still.<br />* For the glorious Sheesh Mahal while Madhubala defiantly dances to Pyar kiya to darna kya while a disapproving Akbar looks on.<br />* For the somewhat subdued reference to Akbar’s religious tolerance.<br />* By our ersatz filmmakers who can’t think beyond Manhattan and singing heroes and have light years to reach this level of filmmaking.<br />* Just for Dilip Kumar’s sheer acting prowess, K Asif’s craftsmanship, the divine Madhubala...and finally for the love of the movies.
